Giving Back to the Community

We dream of not only having a positive impact on our clients’ lives, but to also give back to the local community of Lamu. This community has inspired us to succeed, helped us grow and continuously shares its natural beauty with us.

We collaborate with PadMad,  a social enterprise focusing on providing reusable sanitary pads to local schools and women’s groups in Kenya.

Giving Back

This project gives back in three ways:

    Creating employment for marginalized women:
The pads are hand-made in rural Kenyan communities, using local materials.

    Environmental responsibility:
Reusable sanitary pads can be used for up to five years, which considerably helps cutting back on waste.

     Women empowerment:
Providing sanitary pads to young girls and women allows them to continue attending school, even during their periods.

Our Commitments to the Women in Lamu

“Bleed with pride. Period.”

Simply by booking your ticket to any of our retreats, you contribute to helping change these women’s lives.

Between 100$-500$ goes directly into our social projects. If you wish to do even more, we can help you achieve more!

How to expand your contribution: fundraising

“Over 20 years ago, I set foot on Lamu Island for the first time. I immediately fell in love with this African paradise. Last year Monika told me about her social project to donate wellbeing kits for the Lamu girls and their families. I have set up fundraising, and I donated the profits of my two smaller artworks, ‘Haiba’ and ‘Tafakari’, to help the girls. Lamu is totally dependent on tourism, and covid-19 has a huge devastating impact on the Lamu society.“ If you wish to see Annelies photo’s Click Here

I wish for a better world, in which connection, respect, acceptance and responsibility are leading. Giving the women of Lamu a better chance on a good future is worth so much to me. Especially, because this Island has given me the life that I am living.

Besides PadMad we have built houses, schools, created employability and educated people.

The people of Lamu gave me the life I am living. With every retreat we give local women the opportunity to join the retreat on our costs.
